Principles Governing ARK Assignment
The allocation of ARKs adheres to the following principles to ensure clarity and efficiency:
Uniqueness: Each ARK assigned must be unique, ensuring that every article can be distinctly identified and retrieved without confusion.
Standardized Format: The ARK must follow a standardized structure to facilitate consistency across all publications.
ARK Structure
The structure of each ARK is as follows:
ARK Format: ark:/NAAN/suffixA.suffixB
1. NAAN: The Name Assigning Authority Number (NAAN) for all journals within the SCIMET series is 40704. This number is consistent across all publications, ensuring a unified identification system.
2. suffixA: This part represents the journal abbreviation. For example, if the journal abbreviation is "ABC", then suffixA would be "abc".
3. suffixB: This part indicates a combination of the volume number, issue number, and article number, formatted as v1n1a01. In this example, "v1" stands for volume 1, "n1" stands for issue 1, and "a01" is the article number.
Example
If the journal abbreviation is "ABC", the volume is 1, the issue is 1, and the article number is 01, the resulting ARK would be:
ark:/40704/abc.v1n1a01
